Differential Pressure Transmitter
Differential pressure transmitter is another widely-used instrument in the field of instrumentation. When it is needed to physically measure the differential pressure between two given points and convert it into a measurable signal, differential pressure transmitters are used.
They are also used in measuring other parameters such as tank’s height and flow. Their precision and repeatability in measuring the level of liquids make them widely used across all sectors of industry.
The basics of differential transmitter:
This system is designed based on the Bernoulli’s principle. This principle states that “the combination of speed drop, pressure drop and height drop in one point is equal to their combination in another point plus all the drops which has occurred because of the friction between these two points.”
In this method, the rate of pipeline’s passing flow is measured by creating pressure drop and using the differential pressure before and after the block. Orifice plate is a device which is widely used -more than any other device- for the purpose of causing pressure drop.An orifice plate is a thin plate with a hole in it; it has a thickness of 1.4 to 1.8 millimeters, though its thickness can differ depending on the situation. The hole’s location, shape and size is also related to the usage of the orifice plate.
When an orifice is placed on the current’s route, pressure gradually increases as the current comes close to the orifice. After reaching orifice plate and moving past, the current’s pressure suddenly and continually drops. After moving past the area known as VC, the current’s pressure gradually increases and after advancing a distance about 5 to 8 times the pipe’s diameter, the pressure reaches its highest in the current’s lower area.
Differential pressure transmitter has two inputs and measure the differential pressure between two points. The inputs usually showed by letters L and H on the instrument’s frame. The point with high pressure connects to input H and the point with low pressure connects to input L. Both inputs connect to the orifice plate’s sides. By measuring differential pressure and using formulas, passing flow can be measured, too.
This company offers differential pressure transmitters with Brazilian brand “Smar” and American brand “Kleev”.
